Background and personality and what not!

- Like many of the Weasley cousins, Fred was saddled early on with the responsibility of being named after a famous fallen war hero, with the added pressure of it being his father's dead twin brother. He's managed to avoid most of the stress associated with this by being as completely different to his name sake as humanly possible

- Fred is on the serious side. He takes after his Uncle Percy's political aspirations and got a job early after graduating in the ministry. He was a top marks student all through school, being made Prefect. Although that honour was slightly diminished when his little sister Roxanne did the same a few years later.

- He is, indeed, a Gryffindor.

- Although serious minded, one should not mistake Fred for having no sense of humour. He can be very dryly sarcastic. And if he does feel the need to pull a prank on anyone, he goes for the subtle and intricate long con. He's very adept at giving great joke presents for birthdays and holidays, always something tailored specifically to the recipient that he knows they'll get a kick out of.

- he grew up helping in the joke shop with George and Ron, usually in stocking and book keeping. He doesn't have any desire to inherit the shop, something him and his father have come to terms with.

- His childhood was far from idyllic. His parents' marriage was always rocky, and his father's never been a stable man since the war. Him and Roxanne grew used to frequent shouting matches between their parents, but at the end of the day they always managed to work things out. He always felt embarrassed growing up, especially compared to the apparently idyllic marriages of his aunts and uncles. He grew up very much feeling the Weasley/Johnsons were the black sheeps of the Weasley clan, all being a little more quiet and removed from the bombast of their extended family.

- George Weasley suffered drinking problems on and off throughout Fred's life, but it was never something his mother tried to cover up for or turn into the family's dark little secret. They all help George through his rough days, because while he'll never be a stable man again he loves his family and wants the best for them.

- Fred's personal relationship with his father was rocky over his teenage years, as he always felt vaguely ashamed about not being anything like his name sake. But they were able to talk things through and George was able to prove how proud he was of his son, despite their many differences. As adults they have a very healthy relationship.

- Being bi-racial, Fred got a lot of comments growing up in the line of 'you don't look much like a Weasley' or 'you don't look like your name sake/father.' He's used to them.

- He has great hair. It takes a lot of effort. Everyone's allowed one bit of vanity.
